Wind Racers

Wind Racers

How my group worked together
I think that my group worked quite well considering the fact that there were only two of us, which were myself and Shikobi.

How successful our wind racer was
Our original one worked better than the one with changes.

How I found this activity
I found this activity quite interesting and fun at the same time.

Research
My group didn't really do much research as we already had a fair idea of what we were going to do. However, we did come across a pirate ship looking design to create.

Design
The design we had chosen was the pirate looking one as it looked interesting and was more appealing than the average triangular shaped one. The design was a square which had curves in places.

Build
The sails were made of newsprint and cardboard. Our sail was attached straight onto the metal rod with tape. Each of them were placed evenly at the bottom and top of the rod.

Test
We went outside to race them. We used a leaf blower. Our first try went 70cm.

Redesign/Make Changes
The changes we made were to the bottom sail. We changed it because it was stiff and didn't help as much as we thought.

Test
Our second go didn't go as we planned as it completely failed because it didn't have enough support in the bottom sail.

Evaluate
Overall our original sail worked better than the second one. However, we could have added less cardboard to our original design so it wouldn't be too light or heavier than it was in the first place.

Practical Week 6

Teamwork Aspects

Tasks: The task was to make pizza.

together.

Improvements: Nothing really

Time Management: We managed our time well and finished 20 minutes early

Product/Outcome: It turned out good and tasted good.

Feedback: The turnout was good but could have been a bit better. We could have less oil next
time.

Taste/Texture: It was good. The texture was oily.

Textiles

TEXTILES TERM 3

In textiles term 3 we have been doing a lot of different printing techniques for our own fabric prints. By term 4 we are planning on developing our own printed piece of fabric and turning it into a bag, any type of clothing or anything we want to create. So far this term we have learned about different colours, how to make and use stencils, block-printing, and screen printing. My favourite so far has been the screen printing because I had never done it before and it is really unique in the way we print our pattern.

Pyramid Making

PYRAMIDS
Today in social studies we have been learning about the Egyptian pyramids and got to build our own pyramids out of Lego!

  • Pyramids were built as burial places and pharaohs monuments. They put things like treasure, gifts and things they might need in the afterlife.
  • There are 138 pyramids and the largest is Khufu
  • The largest pyramid is around 480 feet tall
  • They were made with steps that gradually faded they further up the pyramid
  • All pyramids were built to the north side of the river Nile because the south side was dead land
  • They put traps to keep the robbers out and they were made from limestone
  • They were the tallest man-made sculpture for around 300,800 years
